Today I am revisiting my original review of the 100% tree rubber natural latex mattress. You can read my original buying experience here, and my review what sleeping on latex is like after one month here! And use the following link if you are interested in the whole natural bedding series which I have written in partnership with Bedrooms and More.
If you are interested in more natural bedding this is the post for you! Just to catch you up, last fall I walked into Bedrooms and More and was whisked away to the land of comfort!
I had researched natural bedding options and was sure I wanted to go for the real deal – latex! The only problem was that I had never slept on latex before, and a new bed is a very long term commitment. After hearing great things about the mattresses from my mom (she has a Bedrooms and More latex mattress as well) I decided to visit the store.
So let’s get into the review! Here are all the questions I had when I was getting ready to purchase a new mattress:
- Will it be comfortable?
- Will there be an adjustment period?
- Will there be any weird smells (i.e. off-gassing)?
- Will the mattress sleep hot?
- Will the mattress change over time?
I will say right off the bat, testing out latex mattresses was way better than all the regular type mattresses we tried at other stores. The mattresses were cozy and comfortable right off the bat and I was able to form an opinion right away. At mainstream mattress stores, most of the mattresses felt very similar to me, and I couldn’t make a decision to save my life! I am happy to report after over 100 days of sleeping on our 100% tree rubber natural latex mattress, it is just as comfortable as the first 30 days.
Not only is the mattress still 100% awesome, I cannot detect any sinking or change in the mattress either through feel at night or by sight. One thing Bedrooms and More recommends, is to rotate or flip your mattress about every 6 months. With proper care and rotating the mattress has a potential 20-30 years.
The last mattress a friend purchased was a trench after a year, and NOT flipable. The beauty of these mattresses is, you can ensure it wears slowly and evenly with a regular rotation schedule! To say I am happy with the wear over 100 days is an understatement, it still feels brand new!
Was there an adjustment period to latex? To me, I feel like we were meant to sleep on a latex mattress. You may remember that the sales staff at Bedrooms and More suggested we go firmer when I could not decide between a plush and a firm mattress. I have to say I was worried, but I am kind of a wimp around sales people, even the nice not pushy ones! For once I am so glad I listened!
Of all mattresses I tried, natural or not, I was most comfortable on very soft and squishy mattresses. I am happy to report I love our mattress. I do not feel like it’s too firm, even as a side sleeper. Even for a “firm” mattress, it feels soft, but supportive and I wake up with zero aches and pains. I was previously on a memory foam inter-spring combination and I would wake up sore around my shoulder and lower back every single morning. It was the opposite of fun!
As previously reported, there have been zero weird smells from the mattress at all! I have a very sensitive nose and will get headaches from all sorts of smells. Happy to report – no headaches, only Z’s!
So now after over 100 days on this latex mattress would I still recommend it to my friends and family? Yes! Wholeheartedly I recommend latex to everyone how will listen.
The bottom line on 100% tree rubber natural latex mattresses:
- Temperature neutral – I have slept through fall and winter with plenty of warm and cold days here in Seattle. The mattress has not slept cold or hot! I love that!!
- No weird smells of off gassing
- Amazing comfort!
- No noticeable wear at all. It feels today the same as the day the mattress was delivered. No weird low spots or craters to sink into.
Who to trust?
As I mentioned before, we spend one third of our lives sleeping. What we are laying on and breathing in during that time matters a lot to our health. I feel confident recommending Bedrooms and More for your healthier mattress and bedding options. As I was walked through the buying process, I saw pictures and learned about where the latex comes from and how it is all made. You can find that same information if you walk into the store or check out the inside story on Bedrooms and More.
If you are looking into latex options, please make sure they are 100% tree rubber. Some products are labeled with latex, but that could mean one of three things: 100% tree rubber latex (Great!), synthetic latex (a petroleum product, and not ideal) or some blend of the two. Ask questions, even if you have to write emails or make a phone call. It’s worth it for the real deal! The poor imitation will sag way more than 2% over time! Look at reviews. Feel free to send me a message with your questions! Bedrooms and More also does a non-selling unbiased mattress buying class every Saturday at 9:30AM. There you will learn all about sleeping on latex and other mattress options!
Since I am so in love with all my purchases from Bedrooms and More– they generously agreed to provide an exclusive coupon for my readers. The coupon code is “RealFood2016” in-store only and it gets you one free 45th street bedding pillow (Shredded Latex, Solid Latex, Washable Wool, or Bamboo) with the purchase of a 45th Street Latex Mattress! Heather
