Welcome to the 3rd installment of my natural bedding series. Today I am once again visiting the topic of washable wool. I loved my washable wool comforter so much, it only makes sense to top my bed with wool. On to the washable wool mattress pad review!
Now this is not a mattress topper that is thick, or foamy, it’s more like a mattress cover. It’s quilted and 100% cotton and filled with 100% Belgium lambswool. A mattress pad is meant to protect your mattress from grime, spills and other undesirables.
Once I had picked out my mattress at the store, we threw on the washable wool mattress pad to review. I honestly was thinking I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference with or without the wool mattress pad. I was so surprised how much cozier it made the bed. Even without sheets and a blanket, I could have fallen asleep right in the store.
Since bringing the washable wool mattress pad home with me, in combination with all the other natural materials I have on my bed, I have been able to sleep without being disrupted by temperature. I’m amazed, because I have always been too hot while sleeping and my husband too cold. It’s a testament to the wool that we both are happy in the same set up, even with such different preferences.
So why wool? Wool is natural, and breathable. It wicks sweat and moisture away from your body. Sleeping dry is important for your comfort and temperature regulation. If you stay sweaty you stay hot. This makes wool the perfect material for winter and summer, that’s one of the reasons it’s so special!
As I mentioned in my latex pillow review and wool duvet review, natural products that don’t harbor allergens are important to us, as my husband struggles with allergies and asthma. Since this cover is hypoallergenic, it’s a perfect fit for us. If you need a good mattress cover, this is a great option, even if you have not made the jump to a natural mattress yet. I also love that it is quilted because it means the stuffing doesn’t move around, everything stays put and is even. I am probably a distant cousin of the princess and the pea, I can tell if anything is amiss in my bed.
Another amazing feature I’ve come to love about this washable wool mattress pad, is how you actually attach it to your bed. It’s like a fitted sheet, but it has elastic all the way around. It has deep pockets too and this means it does not budge during the night. I actually woke up one night and ripped off a pervious mattress cover because one corner was always slipping up. It drove me crazy!!
I don’t know about you but I’m picky. Maybe you are too, and if you want to research Bedrooms and More, you can find them on the web here, attend a mattress buying class and even read their super helpful blog! If you are looking into latex options, please make sure they are 100% tree rubber and from a source you trust. If you are in the market for these types of items, Bedrooms and More is generously offering my readers a 10% off coupon on all 45th street bedding items, excluding mattresses. The code is pillow10 and it’s good until May 25th 2017.
